Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY

On Friday, June 30, 2017 West Allen Parish Water District held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the completion of an upgrade project funded by USDA Rural Development.  The water district was proposed and built in the late 1970's and went online in the early 1980's with approximately 450 customers.  The original water system consisted of one water well, a water tower, and approximately 150 miles of water mains in Ward 3 of Allen Parish (Reeves, Bel, Beau Allen, and Leblanc Areas) and Ward 9 of Jefferson Davis Parish (Topsy Area).  During its 37 years of operation, WAPWD has experienced growth and now serves approximately 1085 customers.

In 2013, USDA Rural Development provided approximately $5,890,000 in loan and grant funding that allowed the water district to begin the task of updating and improving the water system.   Improvements included replacing approximately 40 miles of existing water mains and adding approximately 17 miles of new water mains to loop and interconnect multiple dead water mains across the distribution system.  This minimized system wide outages during breakages.

Additionally, in the project, West Allen Parish Water District was able to add a second water tower in the Beau Allen area, replace an outdated inline booster station, replace the outdated electrical control facility with a new electrical control building and generator and add new disinfection by-product removal equipment.  These updates and improvements will allow the water district to provide more reliable water service and comply with state and federal regulations while minimizing violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act.
